Sumo Group Recruiter nominated at Women in Games Global Awards

Senior Recruiter at Sumo Group, Sara Machado, is nominated in the Individual Diversity Advocate category at the 2022 Women in Games Global Awards.

The category aims to shine a light on the people who are working to improve diversity in the games industry through their advocacy, actions and support.

The nomination is testament to Sara’s commitment to creating meaningful diversity in the games industry. Earlier this year, Sara initiated a recruitment research study to unearth experience friction points when hiring and, as part of this, produced a 26-page report detailing how companies could evolve their recruitment strategies to better improve inclusion and bias behaviour when hiring.

Sara also managed the Government Kickstart scheme with Ukie and Into Games for the only games-industry focussed gateway and as a result, saw 133 entry-level candidates between 16-24 years old out of education hired into studios around the UK.

On the nomination, Sara said: “When I moved from Brazil to London five years ago with a half-finished degree, I had no idea I’d one day end up here – working for one of the best studios in the UK and nominated for this amazing award.

“Since joining the games industry, I’ve been focussed on removing barriers and creating pathways so everyone can find their dream role in games. It isn’t easy, but moments like this remind me of how far we’ve come, the progress we’ve made and how much work is left to be done!”

The awards will be held online on Saturday 17th September and voting is open now. Discover more about the awards here.
